Full Dentures and Partial Dentures: What's the Difference?

• Full dentures replace all of the teeth in the upper arch, the lower arch, or both.
• Partial dentures fill the gaps when some healthy natural teeth remain, attaching around those teeth for support.

Each denture is custom-made for your mouth. Depending on your needs, it can be held in place by natural suction, a denture adhesive, or dental implants for added stability.

Types of Dentures We Offer

Conventional Full Dentures

Conventional dentures replace all of the teeth in an arch and rest on the gums. They're made after any needed extractions and once the gums have healed.

Immediate Dentures

Immediate dentures are placed the same day teeth are removed, so you're not without teeth while you heal. They may be adjusted or replaced with a long-term denture later.

Partial Dentures

Partial dentures have a gum-colored base with replacement teeth and a metal or flexible framework that fits around your remaining teeth.

Implant-Supported Dentures

Dentures can be combined with dental implants for a more secure fit. Implant-supported dentures can be removable or fixed and are especially helpful for lower dentures that tend to shift. In some cases, bone grafting is needed first to support the implants.

The Denture Process, Step by Step

1. Consultation and Evaluation

Dr. Hong examines your gums, jaw, and any remaining teeth, and takes digital X-rays and impressions to start designing your denture.

2. Tooth Extractions, if Needed

If any teeth can't be saved, we remove them first. Learn about tooth extractions. Immediate dentures can be placed the same day if needed.

3. Fitting and Adjustments

When your denture is ready, we check the fit, bite, and appearance. A few adjustment visits are normal as your mouth gets used to it.

4. Ongoing Care

Regular dental cleanings and exams help us check your gums and keep your denture fitting well over time.
